CBS hits America’s Sweet Tooth

What do a firefighter, photographer, and homemaker have in common? What about an attorney, advertiser, and home health care provider? No clue? Let’s add a  college student, retiree, project manager, and a baking enthusiast. Now mix in chef Marcela Valladolid, star baker Paul Hollywood, and sprinkle comedian Jeff Foxworthy. CBS found the perfect recipe with these 13 people and created a new series “THE AMERICAN BAKING COMPETITION”.

I  sat down with host Jeff Foxworthy (largest selling comedic-recording artist) and judge chef Marcella Valladolid (host of Mexican Made Easy and bestselling cookbook author) to chat about CBS’ new show “THE AMERICAN BAKING COMPETITION,” premiering this Wednesday, May 29th at 8:00pm.Lunch with Jeff and Marcela

Jeff knows the right things to say to get the bakers stories flowing and sometimes the tears. He shared with us his desire to know people’s stories as the reason for joining the show. He originally turned down the offer, but after watching just one episode of the UK format “THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF,” he was sold. Chef Marcela shared with Jeff the secret of bakers: they are givers and their bakes are labors of love. Week after week, as the bakers compete to be the “star baker,” the audience will get a glimpse of their histories, passions, and skills.

When asked if she learned anything new from the amateur bakers, Marcela was excited to share her amazement with flavor combinations and techniques of cooking she had never seen before. One of the most memorable recipes was the Chocolate Chili Cookie. I hope this is a recipe that CBS releases, because it sounds delicious. Jeff and Marcela both shared a fondness for bread week. I have never made bread, but hope to learn a thing or two.

Three Blogs I Enjoy Wandering

I often find myself wandering the blogosphere for new destinations, inspiration, recipes, and everything in between.

First up the fabulous ReFashionista. The first day I found her blog, I was so interested that I read every post. She inspires me to rethink rejected items and give them a chance. A description in her own words:

In the dead of winter, sometimes you need to be a little creative, particularly when there’s a dearth of greenery. It’s these kinds of moments where you have a limited ingredient palette that I find the most challenging and the most rewarding.

The three blogs I mentioned today are not my top three, but just a few of the many amazing writers I have discovered over the last few weeks.

I am still forming my ideas of what this blog should be and what I want to present and discuss. As readership picks up, I have realized that 3 posts a week will probably not keep people coming back consistently. I would like to put feelers out for contributors. Thursday will become share day. Cartoons and Dip

Recently, I thought my life had become one of Peas and Cougars cartoons. The husb and I were prepping food for our commercial watching party and I thought his dip would be a great subject. Little did I know that he would create something even better.

As soon as I asked to take step by step pictures he posted up. Husb does not want to be character in my blog and would not willingly pose for pictures. Side note: I only wanted pictures of the food. I found his dismay really funny and he found my enjoyment to me more like Spousal “Abuse”. I got my pictures and a story too, sorry Husb the more you protest the more I want to do it.

On to the dip! While in college Husb learned a great, fattening recipe from a college friend. Stoner Dip. He makes it for most parties and even though it looks pretty gross, we never have leftovers.

Ingredients:

  • cream cheese
  • chili, we prefer no beans
  • shredded cheese, mixed is best
cream cheese, chili, shredded cheese
For some reason he was adamant about hiding the labels.

We usually split the ingredients in two smaller baking dishes. That way it does have a chance to get cold and it is always fun to pop out a new hot dish when the first one is empty

Cream Cheese
Step 1: Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of the dish.
add the chili
Step 2: Add the chili and spread it out on top of the cream cheese
Sprinkle the cheese
Step 3: Cover with Shredded Cheese

Next, you pop this baby in oven at 350* for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Once you take the dip out of the oven remember it will be piping hot so dig in with caution.

I apologize for the lack of after photos, but we were so excited to eat it, I completely forgot.
